The Celtic Manhood Knot by The Knotty Celt is a modern adaptation of the ancient Celtic knot symbolizing the three stages of a Man’s life: youth, warrior and sage. The knot is formed by three intersecting triquetra. At the top is the branch representing youth, calling to mind that every man begins as a young boy. Moving down and to the left, we find a branch that looks similar to the youth branch, but is built thicker to show the warrior’s strength he uses to protect those that he holds dear. To the right of the warrior branch is found the sage branch of the knot. In this branch, the plait has been divided into two narrower plaits, for the sage has lost his warrior’s strength in his old age, but has gained wisdom through his experiences. The three triquetral branches of the knot form at the centre, a fourth triquetra. This central triquetra symbolizes man’s inner strength as having his dignity rooted in that of the Divine – his immortal soul.
